A635.5.3.RB - Video Debrief of Team MA
A few weeks ago, I participated in a management assessment profile and I received valuable feedback that helped me to understand the work environment I will thrive in as well as the areas where I need to improve. I succeed in a large dynamic venture business environment and I do well searching for solutions to a problem and I understand when to lead and when to follow. I am also a logical individual that provides feedback based on facts and people/ or who’s involved. After viewing the video about Steve Jobs and his startup company of NeXT after leaving Apple, I realized there are several characteristics and about me that would have worked well with his company when they were starting up. First, I do not change jobs frequently and I stick to what I am doing because I thrive on structure, a balance of independence and teamwork, and I have self- confidence. When Steve Jobs was starting this company, they had a team of individuals who were willing to stick it out to see the company succeed, regardless of the setbacks; that takes commitment, confidence, and an ambitious team to achieve.
Next, I have strong desire for challenge and when starting a new company one must be willing to take on challenges because starting a business from the ground up and building the foundational structure, creating the product, staying within budget, and having a desire to make a deadline takes an individual willing to work hard and stay motivated until the end. This also coincides with my desire to reach goals. Steve Jobs stated he was going to stand by the original deadline to produce the product regardless of his team doubting their ability to meet this and suggesting maybe they should push the product launch back another year. However, Steve Jobs realized he needed to stick with the original product launch date because if they waited they would have to scrap the whole product and try again. I would have fit in well with his group because of my desire reach goals.
Finally, I thrive in an organization that uses order and structure, I stay within the expected guidelines and I like knowing what is expected, I do not care for the unknown or surprises. I realize that in a start-up business there will be many situations where one does not know what to expect day to day, especially in a constantly changing technological environment, however; having a solid foundational structure and guidelines eases the stress that can be caused by the constant change of work. In addition, Steve Jobs wanted to build a company from the heart and wanted individuals that shared his passion and drive to build the company. This is where everything ties together for me as an individual and my work ethic, strengths, and abilities, one must want something enough and be willing to work to achieve the desired outcome and not give up regardless of the struggles and setbacks that are faced.
In conclusion, I would have been a great asset to Steve Jobs when he started NeXt because I have the desire to create a product and see it through to the end. I enjoy being part of a big organization because I thrive on structure, goals, and I know when to ask for help to meet deadlines because I want to see a project through to the end.
